The Nike SB camp gears up for another year of massive releases including a new collection of apparel goods and introduction of the Zoom Veloce. The new sneaker silhouette follows a similar mold to that of their Tre A.D. with some sleek upper re-tooling. The garments range from a houndstooth pack to more technical fleece, showcasing a more forward thinking design aspect of the brands skateboarding campaign.

Each season, ESSENTIAL DESIGNS and Porter come together to create a collection of accessories with a strong emphasis on material selection. This season we see two seperate fabrics put to use including a colorful plaid pattern and a colored denim pattern. The denim fabric is particular interesting as streaks of color side-by-side in a subtle manner against a light-colored traditional blue indigo. Daves Quality Meat has broken that barrier becoming a mainstay in the New York City culture since their opening five years ago. Celebrating a very successful half decade of memories, DQM has already dropped a sneaker in celebration this year as well as threw a hell of an anniversary party so it was only fitting to give their shop a new look. The collaboration Nike Blazer between legendary figures Lance Mountain and Craig Stecyk was only a preview of things to come as we now see a full fledged collection from the ageless skate pro, Lance Mountain. Joining the Nike SB team, Mountain now takes his own spin on the SB Blazer model with a clean black and red silhouette. Combing different leather, the upper takes a tonal approach alongside quilted red lining and a crisp white midsole. Accompanying the kicks, is a small collection of gear incorporating Lance’s artwork. The lineup consists of a matching M-65 style denim jacket, t-shirt and fitted cap. This release can definitely be classified as a return to Nike SB’s original roots.

Although Nike doesn’t hold the NBA licensing rights, it doesn’t stop the brand from dropping these clever team colorway Blazers. Amongst the featured teams are the Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers and the almighty Los Angeles Lakers. The shoes feature an all-suede tonal upper alongside solid colored midsoles. The pack is scheduled to release in October 2008 at select quickstrike accounts worldwide including Mita Sneakers.

It’s no secret Hiroshi Fujiwara and fragment design’s participation alongside Nike on the Tennis Classic this year. The former Tennis Classic has seen no less then two collaborations in a short period of time including this upcoming four-pack of sneakers. In a design ethos which has come to symbolize fragment design, simplicity is at the root as we see solid-colorways marked by a perforated Swoosh, rich suede and a fragment design logo along the heel. The insole also features Zoom Air in an update to this 34 year old classic. These are set for an October 11th release at Nort Berlin however a full release to Tier 0 Nike retailers is expected.

Making its premiere at colette Paris will be a Samsonite Black Label trunk. Created as a re-issue of 1920’s styled trunk’s, the piece is full encrusted with Crystallized Swarovski Elements. There will only be 30 pieces sold in Europe with no set retail yet, although most of us can only dream.

This is the first style released by Insa Heels, a round toe stiletto with a 10cm heel, the style name ‘The Cigarette’. Nike Sportswear alongside heralded DJ A-Trak are paying tribute to their efforts on the Nike+ Original Run album, Running Man” as the two team-up on a pair of custom NIKE iD Dunks. The Dunks feature A-Trak chosen colors and a lasered logo on the heel. A-Trak’s album itself represented a new challenge for the Montreal-born, New-York based DJ who’s list of achievements include DMC World Champion at 15 as well as serving as DJ to Kanye West. While not coming from a running background, the album required some serious thought relative to A-Trak’s usual musical releases which cater more to short-attention span audiences. The electro meets hip-hop album offers many memorable beats and works alongside a runner’s progression from the warm-up all the way through the painful last few strides and really showcases both A-Trak’s current interests and hip-hop background.

For The Simpsons series, Matt Groening infused the line-up of Springfield citizens with a Kidrobot flavor, seamlessly merging The Simpsons’ and Kidrobot’s worlds.

This Nike WMNS Blazer has a unique design, being inspired by a set of standard colors for printing called Pantone, hence the name Pantone Mix. This colorful sneaker features white uppers, light blue lace hole tabs, a red back tab, with a yellow Nike Swoosh. The shoe is finished off with a gum midsole with a green toe cap and a red outsole. See below for the sample version of the sneaker which features a green back tab, rather than a final one with a red back tab. This colorway has been released in Asia, no word on a US or Europe release.

To further commemorate Kobe Bryant’s first ever regular season NBA MVP Award, Nike has created a special version of the Big Nike available only to celebrities, friends and family. We’re thinking Jack is on the list, but you might have to know a few people who know a few people to get your hands on these otherwise.
Made of an incredibly soft and rich premium black leather upper, the Big Nike is set off with ‘MVP’ along the heel in place of the standard ‘NIKE,’ which also includes Kobe’s Sheath logo. The tongue is a perforated purple leather complemented by glittery metallic gold laces and a purple outsole, with a double Swoosh bordered in metallic gold. There’s also a soft leather collar lining, as well as a leather insole that features graphics including a frame-by-frame drive to the basket silhouette of Kobe along with his regular season per game statistics and shooting averages. There’s said to be less than a hundred pairs to be given out, and for now there are no plans to release this special edition version of the Big Nike.

“It appears that an inspired-by version of the Official Shoes of Wired’s Gadget Lab, the Nike McFly 2015’s, will be made available by the end of July and will be renamed as the Nike Hyperdunks. I know what you’re thinking (Chicken, McFly!), but get a hold of yourself. They won’t include the awesome air-pressurized auto-lacing mechanism from Back to the Future II.

Instead, the shoes will include so-called ‘Flywire technology,’ which is really PR-speak for the latest and greatest of ultra light materials. They sport the same high-ankle boot style of the original movie, and will be available in late July.

This is the first major UK exhibition for Korean contemporary artist, Gwon Osang.

The Exhibition features 14 sculptures by the artist including a number of new works commissioned by manchester art gallery for the show.

Osang creates life-size sculptures of people using hundreds of photographic images to build up the surface appearance of his models, including the face, their hair and their clothes. his skills as sculptor and photographer combine to make crafted figures with both photo-realist and surreal qualities. French company Renault has published a new image concept, which is entrusted to develop exterior designer of Romania.
Coupe received dreadful, but impressive name-Neptun. According Dragosa Popa, the image of a car during a monitor troubled sea waves. The main objective was the creation of a unique designer car, not similar to any concept. Dragos tried to look at the same time and the car symbolized the strength, grace and ocean waves. Then, the idea was born and the corresponding concept known Neptun. The work remained pleased with himself not only a designer but also the leadership of the French company.
If the machine goes into production, its main competitors will be Mercedes SLR and Aston Martin Vanquish. In other words, the new Renault will be designed for affluent buyers.

The New Music Business: Enabling Musicians To Take Advantage Of New Business Models

It seems that whenever we write about various bands embracing new business models, one of the criticisms raised is this idea that we're somehow expecting musicians to also become businessmen to embrace these new models. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, we've pointed out that this is exactly the space on which record labels should be focused: helping musicians embrace these new business models, helping to handle the business and the technology, while the musicians focus on the music. Unfortunately, most major record labels still haven't figured this out, due to either legacy issues and contracts, an unwillingness to let go of old business models, or simple cluelessness. Of course, the longer the major labels take to realize that this is where the market is headed, the bigger the opportunities there are for others to come in and fill that "enablement" gap. There are going to be more and more interesting startups entering the space. One that's starting to get some buzz is TopSpin, which just revealed its business late last week. TopSpin got some press a few months back by getting Yahoo Music boss Ian Rogers to join as CEO. We've written about some of Rogers' cogent writings on the music business before. TopSpin isn't a record label, but it wants to basically enable all sorts of internet-based business models to work for musicians so that they can focus on making music. From the sound of it, that involves plenty of backend infrastructure, as well as front-end components, so that musicians can easily pick and choose custom, scaleable business models for their website with little effort. The company already has a nice headstart (and even some high profile customers). What may be most interesting, however, is to see how the business model opportunities evolve over time, as TopSpin may grow to have the best understanding of what business models really work, depending on what the circumstances are for the band. That could be incredibly powerful data by itself.

Aside from the previously seen Michael Lau designed Blazer comes a two pack of shoes under the Trickstar theme which includes a limited edition (600 pairs) Nike Dunk SB Low and a Blazer. Both share the use of black and gold as well as a monogram star upper. The whole pack will see worldwide release in mid to late July, however Brooklyn Projects has secured the rights to launch the whole collection later this month which includes a special party thrown in conjunction with magazine Freestylin’. Other all-star artists confirmed to play at the Nike+ Human Race include chart-topping rock band All-American Rejects in NY; hometown favorite Fall Out Boy in Chicago; R&B songstress Kelly Rowland in Paris; dance-electro-pop duo The Pinker Tones in Madrid, Turkish pop sensation Kenan Dogulu in Istanbul; the Fantastic Four in Munich; Beijing-based singing duo Yu Quan in Shanghai and American rock band Boys Like Girls in Singapore.
Beyond running and music, the Nike+ Human Race is also an opportunity to give back. Participants will be able to run for a worthy cause and support the three official Nike+ Human Race charitable partners: the Lance Armstrong Foundation – uniting people in the fight against cancer; WWF - the global conservation organization addressing the causes and impacts of climate change; and the UN refugee agency's ninemillion.org campaign – bringing sport and education to refugee youth. The MLB All-Star Game returns to Yankee Stadium this summer for the first time in more than 30 years. With the festivities set to kick off July 11th, Nike has arranged for a special Air Force 1 release to celebrate the ASG returning to NYC. July 4th is the official launch date of the “All-Star” NYC Air Force 1 High. This shoe features familiar white/navy pinstripes and a gum sole bottom. Several other cosmetic changes were made for the special AF1 like NYC inscribed on the lace tag and a cursive NYC on the heel rather than the traditional Nike Air logo.
